Moving day has finally come, and you need to have all the correct supplies not to waste time trying to figure out what to do at the last minute. This is where planning comes in. We cannot stress the importance of planning for a move enough. It helps make everything less stressful. There are numerous essential supplies you need on moving day that we will share with you.

Truck lashing belts are important to keep your items secure

Essentials are great for both local and long-distance moves. The first step is to write down a plan and continue from there. There are three different categories to note, and they are as follows:

  • Cleaning supplies
  • Truck supplies
  • Valuables
  • Some more items

Cleaning supplies

Before you move out of your house, you should clean and leave it spotless as you found it (in most cases). Make sure you have all these supplies before moving day.

Broom/ Vacuum

Use these to clean out every room as soon as you’ve moved all packed boxes and furniture to the moving truck. To make things easier for you, clean the rooms as you pack, so you don't have much cleaning to do when moving day comes.

Cleaning sponge

A cleaning sponge for scrubbing sinks, dirt marks, and any surfaces in the home. There are different types of sponges for different surfaces. Use the correct one in your home.

Garbage bags

Stock up on these. Put any items you won’t be taking with you in trash bags and dispose of them before you leave. Garbage bags will also help if you don't have enough boxes to pack miscellaneous items.

Wipes

Sanitizing antibacterial wipes should be used on all surfaces in the house once you’ve moved everything into the truck. Leave the house sanitized and ready for the next tenants. Carry wipes with you in the moving truck and in your car when driving to your new house.

Detergent or soap

Use soap or detergent to mop the floors and remove any stains and dust on the floors.

Truck supplies

Yes, you need supplies for the truck if you are moving yourself and renting a truck. Not all truck companies have these supplies, so be sure to ask your moving company ahead of time what they do or don't supply.

Furniture blankets

Cover your furniture with moving blankets for extra protection. You could also place them on the floor of the truck. Use blankets on fragile furniture too.

Truck lashing belt to secure furniture

The most necessary thing to have is a lashing belt to secure your items in the truck. This is for obvious reasons. A truck in motion will encounter a few bumps and hurdles along the road, so using belts will help keep everything in place.

Moving dolly

Moving dollies make it easier and faster to move furniture and boxes and it is ideal for heavy items you cannot carry without help. They come in different sizes, be sure to get the right one for your items.

Cleaning supplies should be on your moving day checklist

Valuables

Don't forget to take these valuables with you in the car. Make a separate checklist of valuables so you don’t forget anything. Value is relative, and some of these items may not be of value to some people, but you can use this as a guideline.

Money

Keep your money on your person in your purse or wallet. Never put any money in the back of a truck as you may lose/ misplace it.

ID’s

Don’t forget your IDs in the house, and don’t put them in the truck. Always keep them with you.

Jewelry

It is easy to forget smaller items like jewelry. That’s why we cannot stress enough the importance of having a packing list so you don't forget essentials like this.

Car and house keys

Do not mix your old house keys and new ones. Get a different key holder and keep the keys separate. Keep all house and car keys in your purse or on your person.

Drivers license

You need this if you’re going to be driving. Don't forget it.

Medication

Medication is crucial to have with you at all times. Take medication for the whole family, including for your pets. Have enough for at least a week to be safe because anything can happen while in transit to your new house.

Chargers

Charge your phones and laptops before you move out on moving day. If you don't have time to do that, take the chargers with you in the car. Put chargers in a tote bag for easy access.

Other essential items you need are:

Water

Water should be everywhere around the house on moving day. Keep a bottle handy in the car/ truck too.

Pet food

If you have pets, don't forget their food on moving day. Have water and a snack for them too.

In summary

Moving day is hectic and sometimes stressful. It is, therefore, important to manage your time on this day so you don't have any delays or miss getting to your destination on time. The best thing to do is to prepare ahead of time. Start packing and organizing supplies as soon as you know your moving date.

The easiest thing to do is to clean the house as you pack or a few days before you move out to avoid doing too much on the day of. Keep all valuables with you, and don't forget to place all IDs and licenses on your person.
